Are our cups Plastic Free?
Let us answer this question by asking you to consider whether a paper bag contains plastic. The paper and board used to produce our paper cups contain the same components as a paper bag, plus the aqueous coating.
ISEGA Cert GmbH has examined the material to evaluate the composition for the presence of a plastic coating or lining according to Directive (EU) 2019/904, the so-called "Single-Use Plastic Directive". In their test, report no 14637/48 dated 4th April 2024, they performed mechanical tests to separate any plastic film from the board. This was not possible because the coating cannot be separated from the board. Further IR spectroscopy examination of the material did not provide any indication of a known plastic.
The material also complies with the "flustix LESS PLASTIC Certification Scheme (V 2025-02) Certificate number FPPC023. The scheme endorses products which are at least 98.75% plastic-free.
In essence, if our cups contain plastic, then so do paper bags. Nobody questions the plastic content of a paper bag, and only those who wish to discredit this technology try to suggest our cups contain plastic.
